The Hudson County Alliance to End Homelessness will be holding a kick-off event to begin the planning process for their Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness. They have secured Thomas A. DeGise, Hudson County Executive, Jerramiah Healy, Mayor of the City of Jersey City, Bishop Thomas A. Donato, Archdiocese of Newark, Bishop Robinson, President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, and Daniel Altilio, President, United Way of Hudson County as Co-Chairs for this process.

Co-Chair Thomas DeGise has stated that "Over the next decade, this strategy to address chronic homelessness can succeed. But it will only succeed if we are willing to marshall the resolve and the resources needed  to make it a reality."

The group intends to have the final plan completed for presentation on the day of the Point in Time Count, January 25, 2007. Work will be done by the five Task Forces that have been identified. These Task Forces were formed around what the Alliance determined to be the ‘root causes’ of homelessness; Discharge, Family Break-up & Domestic Violence, Healthcare (mental health & substance abuse), Mainstream Resources, and Permanent Affordable Supportive Housing.

If you would like to join any of these task forces please e-mail Kristin Green.

Project Homeless Connect New Jersey!

The mission of New Jersey's Project Homeless Connect Day will be to bring communities together to create and promote tangible solutions to homelessness in their own communities, as well as in those neighboring them. New Jersey's first Project Homeless Connect Day will be held as part of the 2007 Point in Time Count on January 25, 2007. Hosting a statewide Project Homeless Connect day on the same day as the mandated Point in Time Count will allow CoC's to count even the hardest to reach, reduce duplication, and give CoC's the opportunity to provide those being surveyed with the services they need.

CoC's statewide are encouraged to work collaboratively on this effort. In order to encourage this type of participation the New Jersey Alliance to End Homelessness will be taking the lead at the state level by distributing initial information about the event and coordinating monthly conference call between contacts statewide, allowing CoC's to share information with one another.

For more information contact Randi Moore.
