Work Experience: General counsel, New York City Department of Homeless Services, 2002-2006; attorney at three New York City law firms, 1993-2002; director of a street outreach program and special assistant to a social services agency for the New York City Human Resources Administration 1987-89; executive director, Metro North Association, an East Harlem-based housing and educational agency, 1985-87; consultant, Catholic Relief Services, Brazil, 1983; law clerk, U.S. District Court Judge Walter H. Rice, Dayton, Ohio, 1992-93.
Education: Bachelor's degree, Swarthmore College, Pa., in 1981; law degree, New York University, 1992.
Residence: Brooklyn, but plans to lease an apartment in New Jersey while the family house-hunts.
Hobbies: Running, swimming and bicycling, although he hasn't been active since he took a fall outside his house in July that required foot surgery.
